NTU Fashion Society

During the 2023/24 academic year I was elected NTU Fashion Societies Secretary.

Within this role, the vice president and myself established a swap shop for fancy dress items used on the Wednesday society night Ocean. The swap shop was set up with the hope of making the society night more sustainable by encouraging students to swap items they had in their wardrobe for another item they might need that week instead of buying a new item and only using it once. Alongside this, the hope was that the swap shop would make Ocean more affordable for students who perhaps couldn’t afford to participate in the society night.

Throughout the year we have hosted special swap shops at popular times throughout the year such as Halloween and St Patrick’s Day, in which many people came to swap an item for their Halloween costumes or St Patrick’s Day outfit for the events.

This event has been successful throughout the year with people from multiple societies coming to swap an item of fancy dress for another item that relates to their theme that week! Our hope is that we can let the swap shop grow and allow more people to come in the following years.

We were nominated for an Nottingham Trent Student Union Opportunity Award which was an incredible chance to showcase and celebrate what we had achieved over the past year.
